Not sure I fully understand this... The complexity of typeof is constant if either native __typeof__ or MSVC trick (by Igor Chesnokov) is used. In this case also no registration is required. In this mode BOOST_TYPEOF_NATIVE is defined. If emulation is used, the complexity of typeof is (almost) linear, registration is required, and BOOST_TYPEOF_COMPLIANT (probably should be changed to BOOST_TYPEOF_EMULATION) defined.
